'Tis The Season

'Tis The Season

A Poem by Laura Pruett

Christmas time is here
Good times and good cheer
Laughing little children play
On this wondrous Christmas day

And inside I am burning
With a long-forgotten yearning
I wish we were not so blue –
A White Christmas? How untrue…

Everything is jagged, wrong
Nothing flows for long
How many times can I stay
When I need to walk away?

Christmas time has come
Though I can’t even feel numb
So raise your glass and cheer
“Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”

I would say this was a little too 'greeting card' for my taste, but you took some creative license and made it somewhat depressing. For me, great poetry is poetry that says something about an object, person, event, experience, etc in a way that has never been said before. I hate saying I don't like someone's work - poetry really only needs to mean something to the writer and no one else. As a poem it's good, but I couldn't ever see it being published. Maybe it's just me and I am grouchy. well, best of luck, and keep writing, no matter what some butt face like me tells you :)
