Buy America

Buy America

A Poem by Analgesia

Build a ship

Of ivory

And buy America

For beads made of trails of tears

And drag a wagon into a canyon

Full of flowing water under the bridge crimes against a land and a people

Then see if it floats

Brilliant! This is the American that nobody sees; the America hidden behind promises of freedom and acceptance. You've captured the greedy underbelly of the nation, the vengeful streak hidden in our past. The reference to a wagon evokes the pioneer spirit that went awry, as exemplified by the words 'beads made of trails of tears'. Profoundness imbedded in the simplicity of a brief poem…Wonderful write, Nathaniel. 100/100.
