Poetry HidesA Poem by AleyshaRosa
In the white cloud I breathe out on a cold day. In the creaky floorboard to the left of my bed. Hiding behind my Mom’s freckles. In the way my shoelaces drag on wet pavement. Quivering in the tears that fall when pain cannot be contained. Shining in the ebony eyes of my ragged teddy bear. In the bounce of a trampoline. In the stubby hand of my baby brother when he yawns and squeezes my finger. In the scribbled scars on my arms that remind me of how far I had fallen, and how high I have risen. In the honey-smooth memory of a hug from my favourite person. In the crunch of bark under my bare feet when I reach the highest branch of a tree I had never climbed before. In the shatter of glass when I’m tired of being perfect. Floating behind the foggy mirror after a shower. In the frayed hole of my blankie that’s too precious to fix. Squished under a dog pile of cousins. Residing beside the boogey man hiding behind my closet door. In the smoothness of a pen held in my fingers. Vibrating in the cool metal ridges of my guitar strings. The clatter of a million pieces when my heart hits the floor. © 2012 AleyshaRosaReviews
