Guardian

Guardian

A Poem by Aleyah

You used to be my guardian,

Keeping me from harm,

Protecting me through wretched fires,

I was safely in your arms.

You used to walk beside me,

My virgin hand in yours,

You guided me through the darkest forests,

I’m forgotten, fading to the core.

Your heart beating against mine,

The best I’ve ever known,

Please just tell me why again,

Your heart turned to stone.

Your whisper calls into the night

Longing for me to stay

But the dusky, warning shadows

Slowly whisk me away.

“I love you, beautiful,” you said to me,

Every day that passed,

I remember your eager face,

Every kiss you dared to cast.

Tenderly you mentioned,

“I will never leave,”

But countless times I've watched you go,

And every time I grieve,

For you and your arms to hold me.

Before you're gone once more,

Before my heart has been betrayed,

Leaving me lost and torn.

Your fading voice departs,

I stand alone at your door.

I'm crying out-- “where have you gone?”

You don't hear me anymore.

Amazing! The poem flowed so well. Rhymes beautifully and captures the feeling of desperate need and the emptiness in the absence of the loved one.
Excellent write. Keep it up. :D

I think it flowed quite well. It kept with a single idea and made that idea so complex that you can almost feel the emotions within, albeit it is clear that the poem was written when these emotions were far from your mind.

Wonderful work, I love it. There's only a few little things you could have added to ease up the rhythym, but other than that, it's beautiful.

I loved the story Aleyah. It's a story almost every girl has gone through. It's simple and beautiful! :)

Beautiful writing. I know how this feels...it's painful to watch him leave, and leave again, and again. And automatically, you're left with memories which are imprinted in your mind forever.

Beautiful writing =)

Your poems have a longing in them I cannot quite place, maybe you take inspiration from deep lost feelings of our youth, we all crave some of the drama of beautiful feelings we used to know.

You write so much about betrayal, some of us endured everything simply not to betray.

A Beautiful piece of writing! I just love it! 'Guardian', we all have a guardian in our heart, the knight... And I love the story you told! Its a story, a very clear story you've told, and oh, I love it when you tell us details... Makes the poem MUCH interesting!
Great Job!
