A Poem by johnnyqueer

The music was playing some Spanish number,
I turned whilst dancing and saw your face...
My breath escaped the black lungs within me,
I sucked in air and tried to say hello.

You were smiling and coming closer,
I would have ran if my legs had let me.
Your words were masked by music,
I asked you to take it outside.

I inhaled my carcinogen cloud,
Exhaled hard and looked at you.
How are you, what's new...
Our usual trade of phrases.

Something seemed so different,
My stomach was in knots.
I didn't know this man...
This man didn't know me.

Months of wasted instances,
Change roughly raped him.
I walked away more aware,
My heart isn't safe anywhere.

No ones heart is safe. And still I wonder why I must at times keep it under lock and key. Nicely done Johnny.

This really is gorgeous . . . always guard your heart, they say. I always wonder: Why?

A good piece of work, the imagery and ways that the words fit is quite something to marvel at. Keep up the good writing.
