A New Beginning

A New Beginning

A Poem by Alexis

I'm ready for my family to see the new me,
It's like my life has been locked up and I just found the key.
The key to my feelings I forgot I could feel,
Because before this all happened I didn't know what was real.
The medicine numbs the pain of my past,
So I don't constantly have to keep wearing this mask.
The mask was worn to make others think I'm okay,
But now they know it was all just a play.

It's always tough to start over, but often times, it's worth it. It's hard work, no doubt, but if you put in the required effort and push through it, you'll get a remarkable outcome. I can relate to this because I am trying to change myself for my family...to be a better daughter, sister, friend. I do all I can to express my pain whether through words or whenever I get the chance to be around others. I'm not much of a people person, but every now and then, I like to endure some human interaction.

Well done! I like how this comes together. This is like a revelation right?

I can definitely relate to this... That medicine girl, you've got to get off that evil stuff and conquer your demons yourself :) It's tough but from your writing I believe you can do it

It sounds like something in your life has changed causing you to feel it is time to remove your mask and show the world the real you, and I find that fantastic. Whether this poem is the first or the last step in your transformation, it is important that you marked the event so artfully.

I like this, it has a nice rhythm and rhyme. Sometimes it is so tiring trying to hide the real us, so it is refreshing when we have a chance to show the real side of us. On the last line you put "the know" and I think you meant "they know" but that is just a small typo.

Good Job
