Blanket

Blanket

A Poem by Alexis Rikke
"

A poem about moving on

"
My body is like a blanket in ways.
Sometimes it bunches
And sometimes it stays.
You love it all the same.
But unlike a blanket my body is not your cover.
You cannot hide behind me
And claim to be my lover.
For I will not pay for your mistakes
Nor will I let you cause me any further pain.
I will not be the blanket that you stain.
I won't let you wash me with cheap detergent and hang me to dry.
I will not let you hurt me.
I will not let you see me cry.

One of the best extended metaphors I've read in awhile. Very original, the way you use "blanket" with a ton of realistic details about the ordinary object and connecting this to the details of a relationship. I like the sassy voice of the narrator, fed up & not taking anymore drudgery (again, good details to describe the situation). So much better, in my opinion, to show courage & decisiveness, rather than to sit & complain & blame & do nothing about it. I like this way of approaching a bad situation (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

ohhhhh yes ...dam ..this is a fine piece..I'm so feeling the character of every word that builds the whole framework and emotional back bone...it's so relative...it blew me away....spot on love it well done my friend.

I read it twice. The first read, first few lines, I didn't see the depth. Then, boom! "My body is not your cover" made the transition. The "blanket" works here--it's yours and you determine how it's used. Nice work, Alexis.
