Can I?

Can I?

A Poem by Alexandria Marie
"

A loosely structured villanelle.

"

Can I be your black wool sweater?

I see the ice mar you cold.

For you I’ll bear the winter’s bite.

I’m so tightly bound

Constricting seems will cry:

Can I be your black wool sweater?

Wear me out

Pull me thin

For you I’ll bear the winter’s bite.

Dark intentions bind heavy thread

I’ll shrink under all your heat

So long as I’m your black wool sweater.

A bleak frigid world awaits

Please don’t hide out

For you, I’ll bear the winter’s bite.

Spring must dawn

For you I’ll bear next winter’s bite.

In your closet I’ll hide from light

Will I be your black wool sweater?
