Light

Light

A Poem by Alexandria Marie

The effect of water on light is distortion:

A fish beneath the surface is a vibrant bird.

Its parrot-beak snaps open,

leaving a colorful screech impression in my mind.

I watch as it rides a gust, then nose dives,

pulling up to evade gravity.

The sun illuminates its spiny wings,

and strategic, slipper feathers.

Its eye finds me.

The affect of air on light is distortion:

A person beneath the heavens is a

giant larva, leaning down for vengeance.

The fish whisks off, under an algae cloud.

I put on my aviators, and row the boat back to shore.
