Chapter 1

Chapter 1

A Chapter by AlexanderD

I lay in bed, thinking about what I had seen the night before.

My alarm clock losing its gears, yelling at me to disable it. Usually the alarm clock is about the only thing that can get me out of bed. And usually I’m up by now but not today. I still feel sick and ashamed.

Last night was the 99th annual Treaty of the 7 kingdoms event. I was of age and was required to watch it. I’ve heard rumors about what happens on stage but that never seemed to bother me. Maybe because I never cared, I don’t know.

Seeing the mages pick all those weapons, hearing the cries of the bloody people on stage and the applause of the whole stadium each time a Chosen One is killed. The Chosen Ones looked a bit scruffy I must admit but that could also only be because I am a Prince who is use to expensive clothing and habits.

I don’t know their past or ways of life or if they were criminals or saints. All I know is, no one is supposed to die like that. Being beating, gutted and worse, in front of millions of people. There were two children as well, not even close to 15 earth years old.

One was a boy, dark wavy hair, ice white skin with almost no meat on his bones. He must be from the Snow kingdom. The mages chose a special weapon for him. A large thick branch from some old tree, on the branch was a blue liquid dripping for what seemed like tiny little horns. The blue liquid is an aggressive poison of which it enters any wound doesn’t matter if it’s a prick or scratch. Once it enters it intensifies the pain making it almost impossible to bare. I’ve heard people talking about it saying the assassin’s uses it to make examples out of other people or to interrogate people.

They beat the boy with it and not constantly, they hit him once and then waited till he stopped screaming from the pain then they beat him again until he used his last breathe to scream in agony.

The other child looked like a girl, I wasn’t sure because the Elves all looked alike with long clean hair. This elf child had very long, bleach white hair, small pointy ears, she wore a bed robe probably because she was still sleeping when the collectors came and took her. Her death weapon of choice was a long sword used by human soldiers. I guess the mages had a heart with this one although she was first cut all over before the final blow was given. The executioner drove the sword right through her heart.

The rest of the Chosen Ones were all adults and they all died similar to the boy.

For over an hour I was forced to sit alongside my father and watch as each one was tortured and killed.

Later after the main event the celebrations began. Apparently celebrating 99 years of peace among the Kingdoms of Ayomos.

I barely slept that night, those vivid images kept popping up and it made me sick.

I finally decided to get out of bed. I sat up on the edge of my bed still thinking about those poor people I forgot to shut my alarm up. I heard laughter downstairs which brought me back and finally snoozing my alarm.

“Who could possibly be laughing after a night like that?” I whispered to myself.

I slowly got up and walked over to my wardrobe. It was already open and I was in no mood to be picky of what I should wear today. If I was it probably take me well over thirty minutes to finally settle on something. So I picked the first shirt and pants that caught my eyes. A blue long sleeved shirt with a glitter green vertical line cutting the blue in half, and a long green pants with no pockets and only buttons tighten it around my waist.

I didn’t even bother to check with my caster how the weather is outside.

I finally put my socks on and then my shoes before walking to the door.

I walked down a wide corridor leading to the main hall. The sides of the corridor had paintings of historic battles and past Human Kings, the ceiling was digital so it could be anything depending on the head house maid. Today it was Birds flying overhead, the sun and a few clouds. She probably sneaked her mystery man in again. As I walked along I noticed the carpet for the first time. Very fluffy and blood red.

I got to the entrance to the hall, inside was a large and very long table in the middle of the hall, at each corner of the room were smaller tables holding all sorts of breakfast foods and drinks. At the very end of the room was a huge chimney and on top was the Empire flag just below a massive picture the King.

The empire flag has golden corners sown onto a black silky material, in the middle was a red circle and in the circle was the King’s face sown in neat white threads. At the top of the red circle was a golden sword crossed with an assault rifle and below the circle was a silver shield known as the Unity Shield which all the Human officials and soldiers wear on the sleeve of their uniforms. Around the shield are 7 rare gems, each representing the 7 kingdoms and in the middle was a large golden transparent gem representing the 8th Kingdom.

I walked over to the table to find my father and the leaders of the seven Kingdoms.

“Ahh, look who finally decided to join us today!” my father announced in a cheerful yet surprised tone.

“Did you have a long night my son?”

“Yes.” I replied.

“I am so proud of you my son, I honestly thought you would not have had the stomach for it.” He said with glossy eyes.

“How could you be proud of things like that?” I thought disgusted in his comment.

I studied the guests around the table, wondering if they are as proud of it as my father is. I couldn’t tell because most of them were looking down at their plates as if the food would jump into their mouths, the Orc King never knew I was in the room as he was to bust stuffing his face. Except one, the Elf King was looking straight at me. Not blinking or moving, his grey eyes were fixed on me like a lion waiting to attack.

“Is he able to know what I am thinking?” I thought to myself as I stared back at him.

“Are you going to join us for breakfast, young Prince?” the Gabethian Chief finally asked. He was a big, tanned skinned person wearing his traditional battle uniform made up of scaled metal plates as the chest guard and bronze heavy shoulder guards. Next to him was his large chipped sword only sharpened at only the one side. That thing is almost as big and wide as me.

“After all, I am certain your stomach needs a nice filling…after a night as FUN as that.” He said sarcastically.

He wasn’t wrong, I did puke a few times after the main even on my way home.

I was hungry but eating with my father would just give him chance to brag about my skills and coming of age. So I decided to not give him that satisfaction.

“No, I ate in my room. Still had some cake from last night so I’m not hungry.” I lied again.

“Please excuse me,” I gave a slight bow to the Royals and looked at my father whom did not look very impressed.

“Father.” I said looking him straight in his blue cold eyes before power walking out.

I could feel all their eyes stare at me as I rushed off, especially my fathers.
