Lost (A Biography)

Lost (A Biography)

A Poem by Alexander Cain

Lost in a world I do not belong.

Too white for the blacks,

and too black for the whites.

Learned to see past the confinements of racism,

and still in this world I do not belong.

Too me for the blacks,

and too me for the whites.

Shall I ever belong?

Lost in a mind I don’t understand.

Too crazy to be normal,

yet too normal to be crazy.

Started to focus on broader outlooks,

and I still do not understand.

Too smart to be normal,

yet too stupid to be crazy.

Is anybody able to understand?

Lost and never to be found again.

Too far to hear my screams,

and too close to see my tears.

Tried to be found again,

and was hurt once more.

In the mountains she will never hear my screams,

and on her shirt she’ll never see my tears.

Will anybody find me?
