My Frozen Heart

My Frozen Heart

A Poem by Alexander Cain

The scars I am forced to hold are

the reasons my heart grew so cold.

Growing up I had no mother to guide me,
so in a house of anger I begun to hide the true me.
In a jail cell I watch my brother and sister grow older,
and my already frozen heart grows a little colder.
She said my unconditional love does not matter,
and at that moment my frozen heart began to shatter.

With every step I take I am worried it will fall apart,
and I wonder how many people survived with a frozen heart.

Frozen things can be thawed, you just have to make the choice to seek out warmth. A bit of fear in this poem, but fear means you want it to be different, and that can set you on the right path.
