While You Were Sleeping

 

 

I studied your face while you slept last night

In the dimness of our room in what little light

Tears would gently roll down my stained face

Onto the blankets and pillow in our quiet place

 

How peaceful and simple my love for you feels

How precious this moment and all that it steals

What timeless emotion comes forth in my heart

As I know each night I can repeat this part

 

While you were sleeping so peaceful last night

I fell in love with you again in the dim light

And tears turned to wonder and joy in our bed

No words were needed as all had been said

 

Good night sweet angel lay down your sweet head

Drift off into slumber with nothing to dread

For while you are sleeping I’ll watch over you

And keep you safe the whole night through
