The Story Of Dark

The Story Of Dark

A Story by Cpt. Alex Rover
"

Dark built it all, but she also caused its fall

"
Somewhere, among the nebulous gases of space, there is a broken vessel,
Made of inky black pitch, it is otherwise solid and smooth
And upon the cosmos this vessel drifts.

It is a curious vessel, for the aether whales do not know it, and the Great Turtle, with his four elephants had not yet met it.

And so it came about that no one knew the story of the vessel, and, inside, a girl like the dark, for that was her name.

Dark was not tall, she was long like a looming shadow
Dark was slight, yet she seemed to fill up all the space around her
And one day, Dark stood, and she was like a little girl, who, taking her vessel, flung its contents to the stars.
Taking puddles of dark in her hands, she spread it, and wherever the stars did not touch, she was there, weaving stray strands of grey into her hair.

There she shaped the dark, into mastiffs and mammoths, cultures and crows, cats and camels. These she sent out to live among the planets. The Camels, upon reaching the desert, lived off it, and became sanded. The vultures settled down, eating cast-offs, and were soon colored in all manners, and the others went off to live similar lives. However, to this day, there are born Mastiffs and Cats and Crows who remember Dark, and color themselves in her likeness.

Sometimes, her fingers would slip, and so the creatures Grim were made, some of which still wreak havoc today. When this happened, Dark cloaked herself in shadow and trained the hunters of legend. And So Dark came to the planets.

Some shunned Dark, and were consumed by the insatiable Grim Shadows
Some did not know of Her, and she did her work in other ways

But one world, its name lost, exalted her, and so twisted her image. From this warped image, another emerged, and the Creatures of the world called it many things; Prometheus, Lord, Light
He gave them fore, and they delighted in it, setting the five corners alight. Though Dark tried to warn them, it was too late, for in what counted as a heartbeat, they had sealed their fate. For Dark could not go where there was light, and she watched their world go up in flames, as Light, engorged on the flames, reached out for the sun.

Dark cried as the sun died, weeping waves of fire, and Light rode the waves, incinerating all he passed, and he yelled to the cosmos, for Dark to come out, to which she replied "I am all around" Enraged by his triviality, he built a storm, vowing that "Dark will wish she was never born" Taking a beam of himself, he set his eyes on the dark heavens, and charged

I love this; it's written in such a mysterious way that makes it seem so secretive, but it's still clear enough that I can understand the direction of the story and Dark's feelings.
