The Spider Diaries: Last Entry

The Spider Diaries: Last Entry

A Poem by Alex J

I don’t know how to tell you what this little

experiment means to me. How real it all seems.

You say go on ahead up the path and count

how many fish you can see, I say can I take

her with me

                        because you know how many

questions I prompt her to ask, she speaks:

do these fish, some of which

are golden, some brown, eat people?

Why is the sun yellow, but

the morning, which is light purple, remind me

of when you were a child

camping with your father

who wears the full body of

a bear, complete with teeth.

There are geese, I call but they feel no obligation,

I am capable of making fire.

The story ends in five minutes, soon the loudspeaker will

sound off the remaining sales of the day,

the river, which is behind glass, the geese they hang from wires.

kids always are so curious...and sometimes we try to fool them with our answers to their questions...not realizing how astute they can actually be...and how they can see what is fake...what is behind the glass of non-truth...
another really strong write..i like your personification and phrasing.
