Digital OblivionA Poem by Alex EppsObservation enroute to my destination
I look around and all I see is heads down thumbs up
Riding this meat machine they call a train People everywhere so oblivious to the goings on around them Eyes glued to their screen thumbs primed to swipe Scrolling through the abyss feeling distantly connected to digital friends Radio waves eminating from the palm of their hands Life outside just passing them by to which they pay no attention constantly enthralled by an illusion projected on their retinas The lasting impression of blissful distraction Seared into their dopamine receptors, neither gratifying nor fulfilling Just an empty void, a simulated universe, a masquerade. All competing for a fleeting swipe of your thumb Not even realising it's the first blue sky in a month © 2024 Alex Epps |
