Nice to meet you
By A. Doyle I think of dry land cultivating nothing I think of emptiness and sorrow Under black skies and starless nights I watch the flight of a sparrow circling Searching for blue Never moving in any direction Just around and back again My name is stuck Nice to meet you I walk and I breathe In through my nose And out through my teeth My cheeks buried behind The collar of a coat I never bought On a day I never lived With a soul I never knew My name is Nowhere Nice to meet you A day goes by with each step I take I imagine moving further away From the break in my heart You made when you begged me to stay But left me with nothing to do But to turn my back on you To save myself From the pain of seeing you cry My name is guilty Nice to meet you I feel the wind cut my face And turn my eyes to the ground I kick a stone along this cold Abandoned road I feel regret like razor blades Moving through my veins And in my cells the loss permeates I can’t walk fast enough Or run far enough Not even flying could pull me through My name is lost Nice to meet you © 2013 A.
