Plastic mask

Plastic mask

A Poem by Aleah Mullarkey

Tell me you love me.
Tell me you care.
Tell me you'll hold me when I'm in despair-

Smile, laugh and cry with me.
Feel the pain of the world with me,
See the world as I see.
Listen to the music of the world with me.

But you can't, cause you left me.
Here alone in this copy & paste world.
When you aren't the same, they make you feel like you've gone insane.
Calling you names, like everything they say is only a game.
But I don't want to play this awful game.
I just want it to be the same as before.

Whispers, and notes-
This is how my heart broke-
The cruelty, the hurt.
My heart laying there in the dirt-
Smashed to pieces, broken little shards of glass-
It can't be put back together again.

So here I am, alone again in my room.
Contemplating my demise.
Wondering if anyone one would even cry if I waved goodbye.

Digging deep, seeing red
My whole world continues to spin.
My body is light, then heavy again.
Then I do it again, and again.
But you'll never see because what I let you see-
Is this plastic mask of mine that I hide behind.

Plastic mask to hide despair. There is a world of cruel hearts out there ....but also one made just for you, so have hope. Don't know if the red is an illusion to cutting (which we see too often on here) but it too is often hidden.

Loss and betrayal of the heart… We try to protect ourselves behind our masks and instead creating prisons of the mind that even we struggle to break free of.
