Lacey’s POV

I felt kind of embarrassed that my house was trailer-sized and would probably be sold for free on the market. It looked like it had taken a mega beating from Optimus Prime and Dorothy’s tornado. And let me tell you, the inside is no picnic compared to the inside. I walked in and found my mom exactly where I thought she would be. She was sitting on the couch, face in hands. “Mom...” I went to her and took her in my arms and just held her. Her dark hair clouded my vision as she shook with tears.

I should probably mention that my mom is clinically depressed. So this is a daily routine. Around two years ago my father, what a butt, committed suicide. When I say, “What a butt,” I don’t mean to imply that I hate him. I loved my dad, but apparently he didn’t. he left this mess and now I’m just his maid. My older sister, Bonnie, is over at Dartmouth studying her a*s off. What a smarty-pants. My mom used to be cute as a button and bright as a sunflower before my dad died. But afterwards, she was looking pale, not eating, what finally set her over the edge was Bonnie leaving. So everything and anything that reminded her of my dad or Bonnie had her in tears. She didn’t have many friends so I was the only one who could really comfort her.

Just then the door opened and that guy, Jude, walked in with my purse. He looked up from the ground and widened his eyes as he saw my mother. , “Oh my Gosh!” he dropped my purse and ran to us, “Do I need to get a doctor? Is she ok? What happened? Oh God, do I need to call 911?” typical, this is how most would react.

“No just get out.” He just looked at me, “Get out!” I spat.

He shook his head no and started to dial for the police, “No she needs help.”

I stood up, “Get out of my house; I don’t need your charity. Get out of here and leave us alone, don’t call the cops, just get out. Are you deaf?! Leave!” my voice elevated. He put his phone to his ear and waited. I snatched it from his hand and threw it across the room.

“Hey, I’m just trying to help.” He looked to my mom and touched her shoulder, “Are you ok? What happened?” I slapped his hand from my mother and got him from my couch and started to shoo him out.

“Learn how to knock! Some things are just personal. Especially this kind of stuff! So get out! I don’t even know you! Leave us alone and don’t ever try to help us again or you’ll be sorry!” I yelled, he blinked and took a step back, just enough for me to slam the door in his face.

I went back to my mom, “I’m sorry.” I took her in my arms again.

“Who was that?” she sniffled.

“Some guy I got a ride home from.” She opened her mouth to scold me but I just put my finger to her lips.

“Whoever he was, he was cute.” She smiled.

“Come on, let’s go look at those American Eagle stuff you wanted, if we can afford it.” I laughed.

Jude’s POV

The door slammed on my nose painfully. I grunted, and went back to my car. Fine, if she doesn’t want my help that’s her problem. I got away from that hell-hole and straight to my expensive house. My president sized house was pure white and had everyone pudding on the gates just for a tour; just some of the many joys of having parents that own half of all the major products in the United States. My mom was just like any other mom though she didn’t believe in maids, so she cleaned and cooked for us. My dad on the other hand… he was always nagging my mom to take a break, but she just won’t budge. Bless her big heart. I walked in and smelt some delicious cookies in the kitchen.

“Honey? Is that you?” my mom’s voice rang.

“Yea it’s me, mom,” I said.

“Oh good! I made your favorite cookies, and I left you the cookie dough,” she smiled as I came in. God, I love my mom. I gave her a hug as she said, “and where is your shirt young man?”

“It’s hot out, I went to a party.” 100% true, when I picked up that chick, Lacy, I had just come back from a party where a bunch of the “hottest” kids in town went.

“Alright, your father is coming home soon and he’s going to be grumpy so why don’t you go do something.” I took the bowl of cookie dough and five cookies and headed to the backyard. Pool time.
