Dark Crush

Dark Crush

A Poem by IGN15
"

Love and obsession are two opposites that can painfully attract, something unrequited born to soothe a personal feeling of lack.

"
Mental walls tower high, against the clouds they brush.
I’ve fallen under stars before, but this time I know I’ve been struck.
Crimson anger sears my face, same muse that makes me blush"
Wading through blood tinted thoughts, sinking in my dark-as-night crush.
I feel the bricks of my minds fortress fall, hear apocalypse before the hush,
And like the tide comes in, then sweeps back out, I wash waves of thought away in a rush.

The chains that tether me back are home,
I rebel against them, insatiable hunger eats at my bones.
Rose wielding thorns, from black dirt grown,
Cage in my mind, I want to roam on the outside,
I fight back morbid fear, I’m scared but I cant hide.
I said I didn’t care but lied.

The ground shakes before it splits, consuming me, leaving me in its pits,
Im a magnet to your lips, craving a sip of your souls light
Locked away forever, trapped with shadows in fight.
The confines of my grave are beginning to feel tight,
There’s death in inaction, seconds are eternal in contrite.
Every night I land back at your feet, and fall from dizzying height.

They've been refining the skills of metrical poetry for centuries. They offer degree programs in poetry-related subjects, and, the library has books on those techniques. Would they offer them if the skills they provide are optional?

There's a LOT more to metrical poetry than tossing in a rhyme here and there. Consistency and structure are the basic building blocks, and prosody is at the very heart of it. But... we learn not the smallest part of that in school, where their task is to prepare us for employment by readying us to write what employers need, reports, letters, and other nonfiction writing applications.

Jump over to Amazon and read the excerpt from Stephen Fry's, The Ode Less Traveled. It's a brilliant introduction to prosody, and other elements we never noticed about the flow of language. He
ll have a major impact on how you write poetry.

Another resource that you may find useful is Mary Oliver's, The Ode Less Traveled.
