You are like the wood

You are like the wood

A Poem by Christina Reed

You are like the wood, and I am like the water.
We do not fit together, you are firm and dry, and I am flowing and unpredictable like the river where the salmon swims wild.
You are like the wood, dependable, trustworthy, people seek you for comfort and steadiness.
We are different, I am me, you are you, and we are not each other.
Your stature is firm and straight like the wood, tall, lean and always there.
My stature is like the water. Wavy, delicate, easy to break.
You are always there, I come and go like the water.
I am me, you are you, we are not each other.

I really like this poem, it is simple, yet it really puts the meaning out there. Well done! I like how you compared people's personality, to things completely nonhuman... I guess that is poetry.

Well said. Good use of metaphor and contrast. Writers are often water ;-)
