My Yahoo Chat Gang's ExperienceA Story by Albert FreemanSomething humorous. My Yahoo Chat Gang's Experience
Now I know this is going to sound as ridiculous as it seems, but I ran into this experience a few years ago before I lost interest in Yahoo Chat. Now the purpose of getting a screen name is to use it for when you chat or go into chat. It's like any other name you would use on any website. As you chat a bit you get to know various people and become friendly with them. After knowing them for a while you can recognize the screen name the person uses, or at least I thought so until this experience happened.
It was a strange phenomenon that slowly crept up like a slow acting disease or bad alcohol made in your bath tub. When I first started noticing people using the same names like (starfishgazer-orion or starfishgazer-saturn, just to name a few make believe examples) I just looked on with some amusement. I dismissed it as a couple of idiots going through a fad. Over the weeks and months I saw more and more people doing this and forming groups like cyber gangs or something. I was completely baffled by it. It was like some drugged out craze after someone watched too much Westside Story.
I saw sane people fall to this strange craze that swept through Yahoo Chat (military rooms to be exact, but that's a story for a different day). What made it more humorous is the nature of such cliques and gangs led to a lot of friction between the various groups, with groups staking out 'rooms' of their own as territory, which slowly progressed into 'booting' wars and other such ruffian type moves that chased away more of the sane people.
The nonsense slowly died down over time as adults realized how stupid they looked doing what they did, but I learned that cliques are stupid and so are gangs. They lead to nothing but trouble and then they even turn on each other. The important thing to remember those is you get to remind the ex members of these gangs how they use to be members. It's rather entertaining. © 2008 Albert FreemanAuthor's Note
