9 Lives IndeedA Story by Albert FreemanOne dogs quest9 Lives Indeed
May 8, 2008 (3:45pm): I first heard the rumor from Barky about the pact the cats had made with the humans. I was a bit skeptical knowing that all Miniature Pinscher had a tendency to yap at the mouth about anything, yet I couldn't help but be intrigued by the possibility. I pondered his words as I chewed quietly on my milk bone and wondered when the human known as Andrew would take me for my walk.
I needed additional information and I knew the best way to get it was the walk around the block. Unfortunately Andrew seemed to be taking his time getting home. Clearly letting this particular tribe of humans adopt me had been a mistake. They didn't believe in doing anything on time.
May 8, 2008 (4:55pm): I took satisfaction in jumping and yelling at the human Andrew when he made it into the house. I took immense satisfaction in scratching up his nicely shined work shoes. He was almost a half hour late and that was simply not acceptable to me. My mission was urgent and he had been most likely out trying to do a ritual mating dance with the human Lana from across the street. He tended to pant a lot around her. I would have advised him to bring her a choice bone or some such other gift, but I feared he would muck it up.
I barked and made an all-around fool of myself until he begged off that he would change quickly and take me for the walk. I stared at him incredulous that he would need to change, but had to remind myself of the oddness of humans. Truly a peculiar creature much in need of guidance from us dogs. I made myself at home and waited patiently for him.
