Orbital Station 39: From the Files of Space Patrol Indigo

A Story by Albert Freeman
"

This is a story about insanity. The story is about a fighter pilot. It takes place in an orbital spaceport. The crux of the story involves a deception.

"Well, if you hadn't lied he wouldn't be zipping around the damn spaceport like an Amarsian overdosing on chocolates!"

"Well you needed yell at me, Caprin! I had to follow orders from the High Command."

Caprin Parin sighed and looked out into the void of space. He could say Marik still zipping and diving around the spaceport as if at the friggin' circus on Baris 5. He supposed that he'd flip too if his native planet had been blown up to make way for an artificial one for the golfers of Tiger Woods-11.

"I suppose he still has his comm link turned off?" Caprin asked turning back to Iltis.

"Considering the maniacal laughter when he had it on, I'd consider it a blessing that he turned it off, sir."

"Right," Caprin said. He ran a hand through his hair. He didn't think the Space Patrol should be the one doing this type of job. Convincing a fighter pilot of the Angian wing to land his fighter after hearing such a message was best left up to his actual commanders. Not for the first time did he find himself cursing the galactic media for scooping what should have been a carefully coordinated use of information.

    "Iltis."

    "Sir?"

"I'm going to lunch. I don't think he's going to harm anyone and if he crashes...well makes the paper work a lot easier to do." Caprin slapped Iltis on his shoulders. The command was to deal with the situation. They never expressed a time table. Besides all this watching Marik zip around made a man hungry. Maybe he could watch a bit of the Intergalactic Gladiatorial Games too.
