In Your Eyes

In your eyes I see your love I see your strength

What is it that kept you strong that kept you whole?

Through the drinking, through the anger

you sheltered us and carried us through

I did not understand, I could not connect

Why didn't you leave, what made you stay?

Through the years, we melted away

like shadows stretching through endless twilight

Yet you remained our constant, a beacon in the night

In your eyes I see your love and your strength

From an era gone by you stayed for us, in stormy waters and painful days

I did not understand until the years had passed.

You did it for us, you held it in.

Fragile may your bones be, there is an inner strength.

Stronger than anything in this world is your love for your children.

We didn't understand, but the truth has come through.

You stayed for us, you held tight to your burden.

For your kids you would do it all, except it all, take it all.

In your eyes I see your love and your strength.

It fills me, it makes me whole,

You wash away my hurt, my pain, my confusion.

Your calm, your determination bathes in a fire of hope.

Just thinking of what it took for you to stay when so many would not,

it takes my breath away, fuses me with new light.

My head is bowed in awe at what it took to shelter us,

to raise us with such love in the midst of such detached control,

jealousy and unjust anger.

In your eyes I see your love and strength.

I love you for what you did, for what you are,

for what you have given us.

I see in you what has strengthened me and made me never settle

In your eyes I see your love and strength

and see it reflected in mine

It did more than that my friend. It has given you a bond that not many others would ever experience. I would like to think this strong bond you have, I too have with my children now adults. My love for all of them five in all feel as strong and powerful as your feelings for your lovely mum. Brilliant poem and great imagery too. It has left me breathless my friend Albert. HUGSxxxxxAnne

i love this passionate poem, its great, very well written and touches ones heart with love, the love and adoration you hold in your soul for your dear mother, as your skill paints her glory in a most beautiful shade of admiration, indeed, your passion flows through your pen and connects to paper in a defining way, one can filly percive this as special.
to capture free form in its flowing state, excellent job on this one, keep up the good work, touching.

I'm overwhelmed, gobsmacked that you seem to have heard so much more than I had thought you did.. I also am amazed by your insight and sensitivity.
