A Letter.

A Letter.

A Poem by Ryun Cushing
"

A letter.

"

I am writing you a letter to tell you of all my secrets past.

I fear my time is running out, so I hope to make this fast.

I ran away once or twice when I was a young boy.

Never would I know the relationships in my house that it would destroy.

I had hatred in my heart, and a bag in my hand.

I wanted to run, and run forever until I could not stand.

Looking back I don't remember what I was running from.

I don't remember feeling anything, all I was, was numb.

I once killed a man in every single way.

The only thing I didn't do is pull the trigger, and take his breath away.

His life was full of sorrow, we had pushed him past the tip.

He was standing there, gun to head, he built his own crypt.

It was an accident, I swear, but that doesn't lessen the weight.

The bullet sealed the deal, I saw it, and I know that, that was his fate.

Never did I think I'd marry, but today is my wedding day.

If I had a wife I wished that, unlike my father, I would not stray.

But here I am on my wedding day, and with another I did lay.

Here I am on my wedding day, I did, I did, I strayed.

And here I am on my death bed, writing to you.

Hoping to right my wrongs, to finally tell the truth.

I heard a story of a man who died a sinner, but in the end he flew.

I've only ever wanted to be free, I hope his story proves true.

And here I am on my death bed writing to you.

I wish I had told these secrets to someone I once knew.

That is profound, very profound. Love it!

Great write. People like to clear their conscience on the death bed. A fellow called Brushy Bill Roberts went to Washington DC to clear his conscience...told the senators, judges, reporters and congressmen there all about the people he had killed, the other crimes he had committed and how some other man was now lying in his grave. But the judges, lawyers and politicians, being the geniuses and masters of media control such as they are informed "Brushy Bill" that all was forgiven and that, in their opinion and more importantly, HISTORY, Billy the Kid had long been dead.

I had a similar idea just now whiles eating breakfast about a poem about a letter but this was great I could never out do this piece.
"I once killed a man in every single way.
The only thing I didn't do is pull the trigger, and take his breath away." Wow, what impact! Stand out line, so well written.
Brilliant write, I love the ending.

A very good tale in the poem. I like when the secrets of life appear. I learn from other people experiences. Something need to lay dead and bury. Secrets and mistakes brought to life too late. Open the door to bad memories. I like the desire to tell the truth. Sometime truth won't set you free. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
