A Letter.

A Letter.

A Poem by Ryun Cushing
"

A letter.

"

I am writing you a letter to tell you of all my secrets past.

I fear my time is running out, so I hope to make this fast.

I ran away once or twice when I was a young boy.

Never would I know the relationships in my house that it would destroy.

I had hatred in my heart, and a bag in my hand.

I wanted to run, and run forever until I could not stand.

Looking back I don't remember what I was running from.

I don't remember feeling anything, all I was, was numb.

I once killed a man in every single way.

The only thing I didn't do is pull the trigger, and take his breath away.

His life was full of sorrow, we had pushed him past the tip.

He was standing there, gun to head, he built his own crypt.

It was an accident, I swear, but that doesn't lessen the weight.

The bullet sealed the deal, I saw it, and I know that, that was his fate.

Never did I think I'd marry, but today is my wedding day.

If I had a wife I wished that, unlike my father, I would not stray.

But here I am on my wedding day, and with another I did lay.

Here I am on my wedding day, I did, I did, I strayed.

And here I am on my death bed, writing to you.

Hoping to right my wrongs, to finally tell the truth.

I heard a story of a man who died a sinner, but in the end he flew.

I've only ever wanted to be free, I hope his story proves true.

And here I am on my death bed writing to you.

I wish I had told these secrets to someone I once knew.

An example of how metaphors can bring something to a poem.

Dear, Secrets from the past...
I am flame atop this burning candle
And hopes which time is running out
So, I must pen this letter fast

You held my interest to the very last way! This almost read like it was lines to a song as you repeat certain portions of it.
Excellent with a very powerful message....actually several messages in it!!
