Common Told StoryA Poem by AlaniA collaboration with WillwebPlaced back on the shelf along with other volumes of dust collectors, hidden between determined bookends Smudged dialogue between forgotten lovers Age old romance reinvented through a fresh pen All too common outcome of pain Questioning the many pages turned bringing each sad chapter to a close on yellowed paper, aged and confused Misread contents, repeated over time Tales of trodden paths and unspoken words fixed by disapproving eyes and stale opinion With beginnings come endings, stories printed in heart drenched ink fading between the covers thin pages cuddled by ripped newspaper bookmarks traced outline of today's reports as if a parallel
universe the same old story told in modern day tales Final sentences forgo happily ever after, no sunset to stroll hand in hand towards, only an anticipated, “The End” in bold
script…period
