The Dayspring Bluebonnet

A villanelle for all my friends in Texas, U.S.A.

Bluebonnet, bluebonnet, blooming anew
Proudly and loudly, your entrance you make,
Infant of nature asplash in the dew.

Brighting the day as you burst into view
Fresh as the sunrise, delight of daybreak
Bluebonnet, bluebonnet, blooming anew.

Fair in a fairy-tale fantasy you
Beam as the morningtide beckons you wake
Infant of nature asplash in the dew.

Profits  aplenty, your faultings are few;
Yielding and modest , no credit you take.
Bluebonnet, bluebonnet, blooming anew.

Dancing, romancing, admirers to woo,
Though winsome compliment words to forsake
Infant of nature asplash in the dew.

So now in the brilliant hue of your blue
Out in the meadow alongside the lake
Bluebonnet, bluebonnet, blooming anew
Infant of nature asplash in the dew.

I have a friend in Texas who has also written about blue bonnets. They are magnificent to look at and of course they grow well in Texas because they need much sun. How uplifting it must be to see them in all their blue glory. I like the way you address the flower here, as you would a friend. Isn't nature grand? I like the rhyme and the appearance of line repetition here. Works so well Alan.

Inspired by the state flower of Texas and Laura Paine's novel 'The Open Range Men' where the protagonist, Texan 'Boss' Spearman, reveals that his real christian name is Bluebonnet. Such a nice word to use in poetry I think. I tried it in a villanelle and it seemed to work.
