The Person In BetweenA Poem by AlaForniaGirlWritten for a friend who came into my life at the perfect time, and has been there ever since.Friend does
not suit you, it is too
small a word; there is not
room to fit you in. Few people
have a person greater than this in their life and don’t even
know it is missing. Life grows on
the hope for friends and true love, but there is a
space in between that few can see and even fewer
can fill. I never saw
that hollow place, I, too, never
knew it existed. Then you came
in and sat down in a void that had gone
unnoticed until you stood in it. Now I can look
back and see that gap, see the space
that needed you in it. For all my
days I will be thankful, thankful to be
among the few who found the person in between, thankful that God
carved out that place just right to fit you in. And I will
always wonder how the years before moved as they
did, without you there. Because now as
I draw in my mind the years that lie before me, in every
scene, in every snapshot imagined, somewhere, you
are there. Standing
beside me, laughter that seems without end. Sitting beside
me, the right words in the worst times. Or standing
just behind me, support that is always there. And sometimes,
to others, you cannot be seen, but to me you
are always there, even when you aren’t. © 2011 AlaForniaGirlAuthor's Note
