No Joking Matter

Why do people always joke about ADD as though it means a person is less... intelligent, less "normal" than they are?

It's no joking matter

So why?

Why do they

Make jokes and laugh

About things they

Know nothing of?

When people think of ADD

Many think of

The goofballs,

The clowns,

The idiots.

But never, NEVER,

Do they think

Of that girl

In the front

With her hand

In the air

And the answer

Upon her lips.

Me.

One look would never tell

You that I have ADD

But it's true

I have ADD

Yep. Me.

But how? They ask.

Because NO ONE

Would ever suspect

That I- that girl

Who has her hand

Up in the air;

Who spent her life

in the Private School System;

Who has an IQ

Of 173;

Who scores "Advanced"

In the STAR;

Who scores 447 and 450

in the CAHSEE;

Whose essay just happens to be

The one the teacher chooses

As an example for the class;

Who just happens to be me.

They never suspect

I have ADD.

So it's no joking matter.
