Lazy Intellects

Lazy Intellects

A Poem by Anima Akuffo
"

Hoodwinked..African politics..

"
Don't complain
Or whine in pain
When all is lost
At your own cost
Don't decry
Don't even ask them why
You were no fool
When they took your stool
Don't bemoan
Don't even groan
You did promote
To get them their vote
You didn't even try
When they seemed to defy
To turn back the clock
Is to squeeze water from a rock
Your head is in the cloud
So they think they are allowed
To make those choices
That's drowning your voices

I'm a little stunned to read your reply to Jacob's review: "Voting is just a formality . . . meaningless protocol" . . . most people in the US act like voting is the ultimate freedom & privilege . . . most decry how this "honor" shouldn't be squandered. Well, I admit, I've never voted (I'm almost 60). It just seems to be a choice between two less-than-meaningful candidates, & nothing ever changes, no matter which group is "in power." Needless to say, I very much relate to your viewpoint & your message.

interesting, you mention this being about African politics...but it could just as well refer to our politics over here...as steppenwolf sang in Monster..."now our vote is a meaningless joke"

well expressed...

Too right, it applies everywhere. Voting is just a formality...meaningless protocol.
