ConsumerismA Poem by AkshayOh, the modern age
Step outside, darling
What do you see? Mothers shouting, children crying All they want is what they don't have All they have is things they don't need Look around, baby What do you want? Things that provide a therapeutic harmony No sense of purpose, you don't know what you sought The things inside your handbags have you in their grasp Look at what I've got you, honey Flowers that don't send a rush to your brain What if I bought you something from the money I had saved for me Diamonds that'll get stolen by someone who wanted to keep his daughter sane Look at what you have, sugar You have all the things that you want to discard You gambled all your money on things you do not want You live alone with imperfection you have not bought © 2014 AkshayAuthor's Note
