A Poem by Brenden

Once I had seven days clean my sponsor told me go get a support group you need that recovery

Once I had seven days clean

All we saw was a cruel cruel world, and all we knew was failure

Punishing ourselves to the next one, we were falling faster

By eleven shut the curtains, no more interuptions

No money, cant keep that steady income

once I had 30 days clean, out of rehab suggestions say get a home group

Once I had 30 days clean

Ive always had this disease runs through my family

So I started using drugs, even drank that brandi

But slowly it started to haunt me

And only those really loved me tried to help me

Once I had 90 days clean my experience was shared

Applause ceased I no longer felt lonely

Once I had 90 days clean

I need to set some goals, NA has truly helped me

And I know the newcomer will one day come to help me

My support group allways calls me unless I see them.

If you don’t hear what you need I hope youll still come back

Once I had 90 days clean my experience got told

I was sharing everything that seemed to haunt me

Once I had 90 days clean, soon Ill have 6 month, H&I commitment I will soon find

We’ve been to different meetings but we still have our home group

Soon I’ll have 6 months clean

I’m still learning about life, my recovery will bring sponsies, so I may help then stay clean and persue theyre recovery.

I got my friends with me

Some are still out using

Others never made it back

My brothers I’m so sorry

Soon ill have 10 years clean, my sponser has 21

Play back the tape so your disease wont sneak up

I made my family so happy with the progress

I hope my sponsies will call me once or twice a day

Soon ill have 10 years clean, will I think recovery is old, or will my support group keep me coming

Soon ill have 10 years clean

Soon ill have 10 years clean, will I think recovery is old, or will my support group keep me coming

Soon ill have 10 years clean

Once I had seven days clean my sponsor told me go get a support group you need that recovery

Once I had seven days clean my sponsor told me go get a support group you need that recovery

Once I had seven days clean

Once I had seven days clean

I recently read your poem about your journey to recovery and your commitment to helping others who are struggling with addiction, and I wanted to let you know how much it touched me. Your words are honest and heartfelt, and they capture the complexity of the emotions that come with facing addiction and striving for sobriety.

I was moved by the way that your poem acknowledges the difficult realities of addiction, including the loss of friends and the challenges of staying clean. Your words are a testament to the strength and resilience that it takes to overcome these obstacles, and to the importance of having a strong support system to help you along the way.

What I appreciated most about your poem was the way that it inspires hope and a sense of possibility, even in the face of difficult circumstances. Your words are a reminder that we are all capable of change and growth, and that we must never give up on ourselves or on our dreams.

Thank you for sharing your journey and your words with the world. Your poem is a testament to the power of vulnerability and honesty, and to the way that we can all find strength and healing through connection and community.
