LOST WORLD

LOST WORLD

A Poem by Akinlolu

It was a strange era
and the earth was young.
Virgin rivers irrigated the Sahara
and the purity of the world was strong.

The gods were nigh
and...heaven was at home on earth.
There wasn't a need for cash, for joy wasn't a product of what money could buy.
The season was pure bliss; happiness was a reward for the new birth.

There were nymphs in the glades of Atlantis.
Satyrs roamed the woods on a hunt for Bacchus' brew.
Gondwanaland was void of bandits.
Polyphemus tenderly minded his ewes.

Fast forward the story to our time of fury.
Gondwanaland is fractured into continents.
A new caste have become jury.
Lucifer's fraternity are now eminent.

Maps are being redrawn
and rivers have turned into gall.
The enchanted woods are gone
and the race of Yetis fled because we sought their fall.

Thanks Jaide. I'm still striving towards perfection but thanks so much for the encouragement.
The poem's early lines seem to speak of a lost Eden, a time when all was right on the earth and the gods were near. The last two verses, however, chronicle a more recent time when this scene is no more, and evil rules the land. The rivers have turned to gall and the enchanted woods are no more. In the end, "the race of yetis" has fled and it is our fault. It is almost Biblical in its plaintive cry.

Your simple but thoughtful and accurate review is appreciated. Thanks
It sounds to me as if at one time there was peace, nourishment and joy to be alive on this magnificent planet…. That was then…. Now everything that was nourished has dried up…. And a new social system has erupted into chaos…. No one knows how to govern it’s people; everything has dried up, climate change has threw us for a loop…we didn’t believe it until I was too late… we can only remember how life was…..
Well written, I like it…..
Warmly
B.
