AFTER THE EVENT

AFTER THE EVENT

A Poem by Akinlolu
"

You've got to get into this and see for yourself. Then you can give it whatever interpretation comes to your mind.

"
50 years after the event,
we took a tour through ground zero.
It was my 80th birthday but we spent billions of gut wrenching moments
inspecting the wreckages and lamenting the extinction of sparrows.
We passed rotted and gutted Maybachs.
And we stopped counting the numberless automobiles abandoned by long dead refugees.
Metropolises have transformed into mega graveyards taking the most hardcore aback.
They're littered with the broken bones of dreams and the rotted carcases of murdered melodies.

We took readings from scores of rivers and streams
polluted by fallouts
as we marveled at the annihilation of billionaires with limitless financial clouts.
There are no more butterflies hunting pollens,
no more fireflies
festooning darkness with green glows when night is fallen.

We admired the charm of rainbows
curving majestically over mutated meadows,
and listened as esteemed historians estimated the collateral damage of the conflict and how much the race of man has paid in terms of cost.
Well, in retrospect, the deed is done. A billion people died initially and then as the clouds and cinders from hell spread, five additional billions fell to the pestilence. It seems pointless now to argue about who started the holocaust.

I recently read about how much plastic was in the oceans (millions) how much crap there was, mountains of it. Now there is trash on Mt Everest, the moon, and they found a piece of trash on Mars. Your poem is so timely!

Thanks for the info. Man is the only creature with enough power to bring about an extinction event. .. read more
I was born near the end of the war...as I grew older, i recall my grandparents telling me about the horrors of the Holocaust; and as I grew to be an adult, I wanted to see for myself all the camps where the massacres took place. I didn't get to see all of them but enough to rip .my heart apart....I've been to many memorials too and i prayed for those lost souls..
Nicely Written. Thanks for sharing a very important part of History...
Warmly, B
