Free speech has come a long way. There are still places on earth where speaking the truth gets one expelled from the land or even from the land of the living.

It all started with a royal pronouncement
and a poet exiled with the denouncement.

The last drop in the ocean dried
and the lady in contractions cried.

The emperor's smile was Seraphic
as he sarcastically termed the verse Satanic.

The event was buried in history until 1999 when the transaction was done in the presence of Brutus Clay.
They waited until the transition was done in the month of May.

In the course of the proceedings, the transgression was attributed to William Blake
and the prosecution was done by Doctor of Laws, Dillion H. Jakes.

Fifty million dollars coughed out by the guild of inquisitors
To clear the name of a long gone progenitor.

The controversy died in the mouth of fundamentalists
Laid to a permanent rest by
capitalists.

You've shown us the the history of many we dislike, autocrats and royalty that crushed free speech, not to say that capitalists are great either. But free speech in many countries has improved ; which leaves those that are buried in lawlessness and chaos with an army of men disallowing free speech to this day..something in my time has never happened in the US; but I've traveled a lot and know that many countries in Asia and Africa are struggling with many things but free speech is one of them. Nice work!
