A TRAGIC AFFAIR

A TRAGIC AFFAIR

A Poem by Akinlolu

It was their first date.
He apologized for coming late.
They ordered for pizza and washed it down with bottles of chapman
while listening to the best of Tracy Chapman.

On their second date, he french kissed her after declaring his non interest in the state of her finance.
She was ecstatic; she swooned like a woman in a trance.
The ring was 24 carats gold
and she joyful said yes like she was 16 years old.

From the get go, her family opposed the union.
They warned her he was an onion,
colourful on the outside
trouble on the inside.
She wept and pushed until she had her way.
Her dad refused to be there on the wedding day.

They never spoke again until
six months later.
A bolt from the blues hurled through a strange caller.
He held the phone and tried to process the message.
"Be aware that your daughter is a hostage."

"45 million dollars and no police involvement."
He compiled without any attempt at incitement.
Made the deposit in the designated wood surrounded by crags
but they still gave his daughter back in a body bag.

Three months later and after a lot investigation.
The culprits were nabbed in a strange nation.

They sang like canaries and fingered the groom.
Named him the mastermind behind her doom.
He wasn't in love, just after her dad's wealth.
He planned her death through all the months he drank to her health.

This sounds like it came right from an episode of, Meet, Marry, Murder on the Mystery Channel. There are gold diggers all over of both sexes I guess. They never get away with it though. Great read.

What a haunting, bastardy thing to happen.... but I kind of knew that all was not right with this passionate love and marriage....and the fact that her parents objected so defiantly and he, the groom probably had some tricks behind him.... so sad that some people are so unsuspecting....and that this passion became so fatal ....excellent storytelling....especially the ending

This is such a sad story Akinlolu. I feel very sad for the daughter and the wonderful dad. He will be compelled to live out his days in tears and regrets. Love can be so fatal sometimes. We just don't see it coming. Your narration of this story was awesome and the poem flowed with superb rhyming and word choice. The final lines were amazing and I just loved this read.

What an intriguing write Akinlolu. A tragic write indeed. What a callous misfortune to fall on a young bride abnd instigated by the groom. The coldness sent a shiver through me. Some people will do anything for financial gain. Good to read you today.

A chilling tale here, and not beyond the realm of possibility, given the state of the world today. A glib sociopath can control anyone who wants to believe him badly enough.
