RAKWANGA’S SONGA Poem by AkinloluA journey from war to love?
Time is rewound
and I am reborn. The wind sounds like a whistle and lightning bolts sizzle through grey skies like electricity through copper wire, running through a quiet city. A hundred years ago I was the song of those seeking redress from wrongs. I was a hero wielding my sword for justice. Supporters sought for me an esteemed office. I fought for my tribe; but my face Ingaka disliked He became chief of the tribe and leader of the clan. Ascended the throne with the aid of bribe though I, Rakwanga was the chosen one. He opened the portals for dragons and invaded the land with a hundred thousand guns. He excommunicated me from the land and fell victim to contempt and pride. I broke his iron hand and fled with a guide until I reached the gates of Lashutri. Valour and fame secured me an entry. Daughter of the monarch swooned at my carriage My hand she sought in marriage. She was beautiful like a fairy. Fair like a full moon though it's strange that she's so hairy. To Justice I’d sworn my loyalty. Women were never part of the equation. I cared not that she came from royalty. Women always complicate with passion. This princess had a dream so strong. And I Rakwanga was the star in her throng. I thought she was the joker but she swore my destiny was to be her lover. © 2023 AkinloluReviews
