More Than A Feeling

Love is often portrayed as a “ feeling.” When the excitement’s gone, relationships end. However, true and lasting love is a choice that must be made each and every day. It’s more than a feeling.

Movies are deceiving,
Love’s more than feeling.
Love is saying sorry
‘Cause you love them more
Than being right.
Love is going places
They love but you hate
Just to see their smiling face.
Love is yielding to them
The last bite of your cake.
Love is being together for hours
But it only feels like minutes.
Love is traveling far and wide
Just to hug them tight.
Love is listening to them talk for hours
Even when you’re tired.
Love is patient
It is not instant.
Love is kind.
It is not selfish.
Love is everlasting.
It is not fleeting.
And once you love them,
They’re in your heart forever,
For Love is more than a feeling.

There’s so much wisdom and insight in this poem. It shows that for love to be love, and not infatuation, it’s needs to be enduring and selfless, something that goes the distance through the hard times and involves more than a little give and take. Lovely writing again Adelina.

The little anecdotal moments in the piece really do a fine job of making a poem about love (which can be terribly broad and cliché) personal and sweet. I can read about summery laughs and cinematic kisses until my eyes glaze over, but the idea of yielding your last bite of cake to someone gave me a nice laugh. Well-written, well done.
