What Love is NotA Poem by Adelina Keith
I was young.
And it was silly To have thought you cared for me. You charmed me with your wit, And I didn’t care a bit About my father’s warning. Funny how I never noticed you Until I thought you cared. You showered me with gifts. That’s when things began to shift. You said I was your only love. Oh dear, how you deceived me! Every time without fail You took advantage of my love Yet, I welcomed you again. In my innocence, you deceived me And polluted my precious purity. You left my spirit broken When you left me for another. Why? I often wonder My father was right. I should’ve listened To his advice. But I am happy now. And though I have found love again, This time of the true and purest form, I often think of you. I hope you’re happy and doing well. Thanks for teaching me What love is not. © 2022 Adelina KeithAuthor's Note
