Alone on Christmas

Alone on Christmas

A Poem by Akashi
"

Christmas! :D

"
It seems like I'm all alone

Under this sparkling mistletoe

I close my eyes, and bend toward

I feel the air press against my lips, the cold weather

Sitting in this small chair, beside the Christmas tree

I stare down at that empty space, where the presents should be

No voices of children, no laughing or singing

No homemade pies or meat, nothing

The snow lays itself against the ground

The stars seem to whisper to each other without making a sound

The night seems so cold, but the fireplace seems too hot

I wish I could be with someone, maybe a couple people, not a lot

If they could hold me beside the window and keep me warm and comfy

I would only then, love Christmas the most, but I can only love the thought.

Reading this gave me tingles. The juxtaposition of Christmas, with its social festivities and merry-making, with the loneliness of solitude on that day - it is stark and raw emotion, a bullet train speeding right into my heart. Really spectacular emotion in your writing. Nothing over the top here and it feels genuine, which makes it all the more powerful.

One small thing, the font and colors were difficult for me to read on my computer screen. Maybe my eyes are finally getting bad. :P

I feel for the poet on this lonely day and hope (s)he knows (s)he is never truly alone. The distant stars - bright and beautiful - are not to be blamed simply because the people in Times Square cannot see them. We are each special and extraordinary, regardless of whether others have the sensitivity to notice.

Keep writing and sharing your light with the world.

Thank you :)
I have to admit I like the bottom one better but I did like your poem in general. I think a lot of people can relate who are alone on Christmas.
