A Chapter by Aj Scarlett

I stand there. Staring at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, the hospital gown hanging off of me like a blanket. I touch my face, where the heavy bandages covered part of my forehead and under my left eye. I grab the top and pull slowly, revealing a deep scar. After I pull all the bandages off of my face, I move to my legs. The small scars weren’t as noticeable, almost the same color as my tan skin, but still there.

I look back up into the mirror, my eyes adjusting to the new me. Since the fire, only 2 weeks ago, my bangs had grown out a considerable amount; covering my entire forehead and falling just below my eyes. I take my dark brown hair out of its ponytail, and let it fall around my shoulders.

This person in the mirror scares me; the face so much different from what I used to have. I feel a few tears fall down my cheeks, before I am full blown crying.

All this, because of my mom.
