In Blackened Rooms

In Blackened Rooms

A Poem by Amanda
"

A poem about a long-distance relationship.

"
In blackened rooms on light-strewn streets,
Beneath the starless haze of night,
In cities famed to never sleep,
Each abuzz, yet all alike,
One in the same, each concrete star,
Shining upon a blackened orb,
Their lights grow dim, then fade to dark,
In contrast to my hearts accord,
Surrounded by the burn and blaze,
The constant roar of city squares,
I wait in but a lonely daze,
For whom I pine, none can compare,
In blackened rooms on light-strewn streets,
Kissed by the glow of heaven's stars,
Where angles rest their heads and sleep,
Close in my heart, and yet so far,
Where jungles aren't of steel and stone,
But where true tigers hunt and prowl,
Is where my heart has found its home,
A town where earnest coyotes howl,
For there my love has made his den,
Tis there to where I'll soon return,
I dare say when, and until then,
All I can do is pine and yearn.

Author's Note

The main point was to show a contrast in settings: one a city, one a small town. As for the tiger reference, I'm from Auburn, if that means anything. I was not speaking of jungles.
