Last Goodbye

Last Goodbye

A Poem by Ma. Aileen Canizares Salibay
"

Papa's always at my back in every moment of my life, but I failed to stay on his side on the day he said goodbye.

"
I wish to pull back those days
When you first held us in your arms
You watched our first steps
And sneaked out to bring sweets for us.

It must have hurt you
When we moved miles away from you
And it must be so lonely for both you
To think of the days we spent without you.

We had so many "goodbyes"
But we knew there will be "hellos"
If I could set the clock one more time
I would change every move I made.

Had I known twas your last goodbye
I would have stayed by your side
To hold you when you were petrified
To face the most terrifying battle of your life.

But Death may have taken you
Far away from us
Yet I still hear your jokes
And feel your warm hugs.

We know deep in us
You'll watch over your little ones
Because we're the apple of your eyes
As you are to us.

I wish I could tell you
I am deeply sorry
I wasn't with you
But always remember that I love you.

What a wonderful daughter you were and still are and always will be. To write such beautiful and honest words would and do thrill him - truly. I promise you. Life takes us on adventures, we can't always be where we want or can be physically but our spirits adventure somehow and rest where they should. Find smiles, that's what your darling father would want for you.. True?

Beautiful writing, sincere and full of elegance. :
