Betrayal

Betrayal

A Poem by Ahmad Cox

Betrayal
by Ahmad Cox
Sometimes we betray ourselves
We tell ourselves things
That just aren't true
We convince ourselves
Of so many things
That it can be hard
To know what the truth about us is anymore
We become so wrapped up in believing
Everything that everyone else says about us
That we can betray ourselves sometimes
We can hurt ourselves
And we can hurt others
When we betray ourselves sometimes
But if we listen to God
And remember who we are
We will understand we are a lot more whole
And a lot more powerful than we can ever imagine
And slowly but surely
We will learn to stop betraying ourselves
And convincing ourselves of things
That just aren't true

It is almost like betraying ourselves because ultimately we are only hurting ourselves.
Hopeful at the end as always. You can't even let the entire piece be dark and I think that is a good thing. But I know I went through this very thing the other night. Telling myself it was all my fault that something happened. But once I really thought about it all. It wasn't my fault at all. And I'm trying to do this more in my life. Wonderful as always.

I am glad you could relate
I like the orchestration of mood. It starts out dark, then you slowly bring us into the light. The everlasting light of God :)

Very well said :)
its a spiritual and mental battle we all are fighting, some cope with the scars by lying to themselves that they are not wounded... if you don't acknowledge the hurt, you cant heal it

another good one!

I am glad you could appreciate it.
The 'god' reference aside, this is very good. We are sometimes our own worst enemy. We need to find that godliness inside of ourselves to be kind. Well done.

very strong poem-thoughts! Yes, i agree we can betray ourselves in many ways, and even don`t understand ourselves in times, that we think it`s confusing. what we shouldn`t forget is : that we are in a test. All time we are watched, and the best thing is to be careful and good and do the most propriate/ the best in the situation we are in. Otherwise, we can`t choose all whast we have. and be true to yourself and to your heart - but first learn how to understasnd it.
