Addict

A Poem by Ahmad Cox

Addict

Addicts come in different forms
We are all facing our own demons
We all have those things
That we wish that we could let go of
Those inner demons
Those inner forces
That seem to drag us down
That snag us down
We all have the things
That keep us up at night
Those moments in our lives
When we doubt if we are really here
Really living
Really existing
Or if we are just floating along
Not truly grafting to anything real
Just floating along with the breeze of life
Giving in to our demons
The things that hold us back
Sometimes it can feel
Like it's just easier to give in
Sometimes it can feel like
It is just easier to just
Keep going through the motions
Sometimes it can feel like it's easier
Just to live in the darkness
Giving in to those inner demons
Sometimes they can become so familiar
It can become all you can know

Thank you. I truly appreciate.
Our inner "demons" we have to fight, or they will fight us one day! we always have such demons, first thing which is good is to realize that they are REAL demons! they can have roots inside us and live there loooong time, until we let them go or leave them or do a special spell to let them go! so I relaize all..thank u for ur great poem, dear friend!

Thank.you for reading my poetry
So true! Fighting them can take everything you have and then, more than you have, but you do it anyway. Some can't even begin.

Wow Ahmad, you have a really good understanding of this topic. The depth of which you go into it is very real. Yes, addiction can occur in a multitude of ways, more then can be counted with any accuracy I would think. There are common addictions, yes, along with some very unusual ones and some that are not even considered addictions. As I observe the world, by far the most common one never gets treated because it is not recognized as an addiction. It is one that is so toxic that just one individual who has it can directly affect the lives of thousands, even millions. I call it greed.

So true and yet it goes unchecked
This is absolutely true. Everyone has a different addiction, and everyone has a different way of expressing it or dealing with it. People tend to judge about whether or not an addiction is greater or worse, than another, but that's not true. They're all different types. Some one may be addicted to drugs, while others might be addicted to pain, cutting and such. It doesn't mean that one is worse than another, all that matters is that they're both addictions, and both people with them, can suffer.
Addictions, whether big or small, are nothing to brush off and just pretend that they aren't there, that the person can figure it out. We don't know what they're feeling and maybe they need help.
Great poem, lovely and true to it's word. Thanks for sharing.
