MadreA Poem by Ahmad Attr
I love like a mother does
I want to wait by the door and pray to the gods For your return For protection against harms So when you’re gone, I amble mindless in the courtyard I don’t eat, wander in the streets holding rosary beads And I know you’re in your rebellious phase But if you ask, just once I’ll become monsoon in your dog days An ember to warm your hands I’ll become your cabin in the lost woods I’ll become your water in the sweltering sands A bridge over uneasy tides I’ll become an astral compass to guide you where the great lands divide And I’ll be the wind on your ocean I’ll hold your oar and take you to the shore I’ll be the gentle blanket of the Nyx I’ll be your dawn, your dreams, and everything betwixt I’ll be your cure, a water so pure that it’ll cleanse your soul I can nourish you in my arms and birth you into the universe when you’re ready I’ll be your Excalibur; I’ll be your aegis I’ll give you life that won’t be taken by Hades And if I see a single scratch on your face, My fury will strike every matter I’ll rot the world, done once by Demeter I’ll burn to whole cosmos, I’ll leave no traces This is what my fate is To be your harbor, your placid oasis So I pray for your return And when you do I’ll cook you stew And make your bed And you lay your head on my lap And I’ll listen to your rants Slowly unwinding your stress And press my lips on your forehead In the crinkles of aflame firewood, a tiny light snores on my thighs Caressing his radiant skin, I’d say ‘’this is enough’’ © 2023 Ahmad AttrReviews
