Midnight Jump Scare

Eight more minutes to midnight and here I am sitting in front of my laptop, unable to produce even a single word on Microsoft Word. Sitting here, blankly, unable to convey my thoughts into words. As a writer myself, it is very hard for me to accept the fact that my writing ability has deteriorated tremendously due to the fact of not having the leisure to read and write when I should be.

Deep in my thoughts, I typed a few words.

Before I was able to produce any readable material, a loud bang came about from the kitchen. It sounded like a metal object being dropped. Like a spoon into the sink?

Stray thoughts went blistering in and out of my mind, my parents are asleep. Aunty and grandmother are no exceptions. I am the only one awake at the moment. So, what on earth was that?

I get scared easily. Really scared. Holding onto my trusty pillow, I mustered all my courage to out into the dark to venture. Switching form the light to the dark can be hard. As I reached for the light switch, another bang came about. This time though, I see a figure in the shadows.

Cold sweat starts to ripple down my forehead and I could feel the chills running down my spine. Is that…a ghost? I thought. Too scared to even move a single inch from where I stand, I hit the light switch with all my might.

At that time my eyes were closed because I was deemed too scared to even look what was in front of me. Before nightfall, I tried to play the game - Five Night’s at Freddy’s, a survival horror game with many jump scares. I became very jittery after that and was easily scared by the slightest sound.

Eyes tightly shut, I pray to God hoping for the best that it is not a ghost nor an animatronic from Five Night’s. I slowly start to open my eyes.

Oh for the love of God, it really is my grandmother! A sense of relief spread through my entire body as my mind came to an ease. Looking at grandmother fumbling over a metal spoon that she picked up from the sink, I let out a small giggle before heading back to my room.

“Ah girl, don’t stay up too late. Or the scary things might get you” That was what my grandmother would always say when she catches me out when it’s late. Surprisingly she did not call out to me like she usually does.

Feeling a bit alarmed, I walk towards grandmother “Ah ma, is everything okay?”
