Skeletons

Skeletons

A Poem by Agonizing Clarity

She wanted to be smaller
to take up
less space.
Perhaps then, you would've had stayed.
She went from smiling eyes and chubby thighs
to a tiny little thing
so small
I could hold her
on the edge of my tea cup.
She hated herself.
You made her feel small with those words of yours
and still she loved you
or, at least, the old you.
That was all she knew- being small.
Until small wasn't enough
she got smaller and smaller
"no need for meals", she'd say
"It should be enough that I'm still your daughter."
Referencing a CPS visit
due to her father.

Well, now my lovely little girl is gone
and I all have left
is the Skeleton
she left in her closet
her journals that she left me to deposit
and a list of all the meals
she never ate.
